AGE (Aged Garlic Extract)
Garlic contains many active sulfur molecules that have been shown to stimulate endothelium constricting and relaxing factors leading to lower blood pressure. Garlic has also been shown to stimulate the production of nitric oxide (NO) and hydrogen sulphide (H2S) which leads to vasodilation. Garlic has also exhibited and significant role in inhibiting platelet aggregation (thrombosis) in humans.
Hawthorn Berry
Several pharmacological activities and properties of Hawthorn include hypotensive (lowers blood pressure), hypolipidemic (lowers) cholesterol), cardioprotective effects, regulating the heartbeat, protection against myocardial infarction, anti-anxiety, anti-depression, anti-inflammatory, and free radical scavenging (antioxidant activity). Hawthorn has been shown to be an Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. These substances help relax the veins and arteries to lower blood pressure. ACE inhibitors prevent an enzyme in the body from producing angiotensin II, a substance that narrows blood vessels.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant vitamin. Oxidation is a key step in atherogenesis (the process of atherosclerotic plaque formation, leading to coronary artery disease). Oxidized LDL (low-density lipoprotein) stimulates endothelial cells to produce inflammatory markers, is involved in foam cell formation, has cytotoxic effects on endothelial cells, inhibits motility of tissue macrophages, and inhibits nitric oxide-induced vasodilation. Vitamin E has been shown to increase antioxidant activity in vitro and prevent atherosclerotic plaque formation.
Cayenne Pepper
Inflammation plays a role in many different diseases including heart disease. Capsaicin the active ingredient in cayenne pepper may reduce inflammatory markers and may also help to reduce high blood pressure according to animal studies. This reduces the risk of developing heart disease.
